Thanksgiving Treat Smoothie

Maple syrup is a natural ingredient that was first discovered in the sap of maple trees by Native Americans. Traditionally eaten in America and Canada, maple syrup gives a sweet taste to any food, from meat to pancakes. Try this delicious maple smoothie – a stars and stripes winner!

Ingredients:

  • 150g raspberries or mixed berries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 banana
  • 175ml apple juice
  • 200ml low fat natural yoghurt
  • 50g oats
  • 1×10ml spoon maple syrup
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon

Equipment:

  • Weighing scales
  • Colander
  • Chopping board
  • Sharp knife (please get an adult to help you)
  • Blender or smoothie maker
  • Measuring jug
  • Measuring spoons
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Cups or glasses to serve

Method:

  1. Defrost the raspberries or mixed berries if using frozen.
  2. Wash the raspberries or mixed berries.
  3. Chop the banana.
  4. Put all the ingredients into the blender.
  5. Blend for around 30 seconds until there are no lumps left.
  6. Pour into cups or glasses to serve.

Top tips

If your blender has an ice crush button, put your frozen fruit in straight away rather than defrosting it. Frozen fruit is often cheaper and easier to keep fresh.

Make sure you use real maple syrup rather than the flavoured versions.

Buying cartons of apple juice is much easier than juicing your own.
